Richard Hull Biography Crime Writer

Richard Hull was born on 6th September, 1896, and educated at Rugby, obtaining a mathematical exhibition on leaving. The First World War prevented his going to Cambridge.

He was articled as a Chartered Accountant in 1919 and practised until 1939, when, after a short period in the army, he joined a Government department as an investigator of cost accounts.
His first novel, Murder of My Aunt, was published in 1935, since when he has written regularly except during the war years. His novels, though dealing with murders, are not generally of the ordinary detective nature. He specializes, often using the first person, in the creation of an unusual approach to the narrative and in the description and feelings of the criminal, and occasionally of the victim.

His books so far published include Murder of My Aunt, The Ghost It Was, Murder Isn’t Easy, Keep It Quiet, The Murders of Monty, The Unfortunate Murderer, My Own Murderer, And Death Came Too, Beyond Reasonable Doubt, Left-Handed Death, lost First and Excellent Intentions
