Ralph Rodd Biography
Ralph Rodd was a pseudonym used by William North who was born 1869 and wrote twelve mystery novels, the last one published in 1940

Sample from Ralph Rodd's Midnight Murder
As a medical man and a specialist in ever increasing demand, Giles Egerton was not unaccustomed to driving swiftly through the country to reach the bedside of those who needed his services, but, as he was wont to say, he never allowed his excellent chauffeur to overlook the fact that it is desirable that a doctor should reach his patient with faculties and limbs intact. Unlike the exemplary Newstead, his present driver seemed oblivious of what should nave been obvious. From the rectory, past the old grey church with its lych gate and sombre cedars, the car dashed, skirted the village green, then, turning sharply, swung round a corner with a scarcely perceptible slackening of speed. Having gained the highroad the driver accelerated ; the pointer on the dial before Egerton having coquetted with the forty mark, passed the fifty without a pause and made for the sixty resolutely. " Steady, man ; steady," Egerton admonished, and he added, " I shall not be of much service to your mistress if you upset us before we reach her." The pointer dropped back to within nodding distance of forty. " ' It's life or death, Pringle,' Miss Jackie said," the chauffeur returned, as though the fact justified any amount of recklessness.
