WHEN Seton Archer came up to me in the lounge of the Double Thirteen Club, with a wide grin of satisfaction on his face, I knew that the latest manuscript relating the strange adventures of the club's members was ready for my perusal. As secretary of a club boasting possibly the richest membership list in London, I have somehow been inveigled into acting as sponsor and editor of the various adventurous narratives penned by the members. The stories, once written and accepted by the other members, forthwith became the property of the club. The members ballot as to who shall write the nest story, and to me is given the task of helping knock it into shape. "Oh, there you are, Marlowe," said Seton Archer. "Come and have a drink. I've got something to tell you." "Let me guess, Mr. Archer," I said, returning his smile. "Well?" "Loaded Dice" " You're right. I've got the manuscript out in my car. I want you to go over it for me, and undertake the sort of revision we discussed some time back. Can you do that fairly quickly for me ? " " Yes, I think so," I said. We went to the bar and fortified ourselves with a couple of tall glasses, and I asked him how he thought the story had turned out.
