Snippet
Light streamed from the windows of the Ditchmoor Arms and glittered on the snow. The snow covered the village of Ditchmoor and hung in the clouds overhead. Inside the Ditchmoor Arms a very old man decided regretfully that his tankard really was empty, put it down with a loud smack and waited. Since no one took any notice of that manoeuvre he drew attention to himself by talking about the weather, a subject on which he was an expert. "It'll snow again before morning," he said. A groan went round the bar, but it was not an astonished groan, for the ne~arness of the snow was apparent to everyone there. "But it'll thaw quick tomorrow/' the old man said triumphantly. A loud and scornful laugh came from a youth with a spotty face.
