Synopsis - About this Book
A brilliant scientist, newly released from a mental home and bitterly resentful of his incarceration there, believes he has made a discovery which will change the whole future of mankind. Hating his fellow men for what he regards as an injustice, he decides to make some unusual experiments.
Seventeen years later, when the world is anxious and unhappy on account of the numerous testings of nuclear weapons and the release of radio-activity, which doctors are beginning to fear are causing all the mystery diseases ravaging the different countries, a series of kidnappings of young women take place in Britain.
One of these young women is Margot Considine, the daughter of the Chief Commissioner of Police, and the man who was with her at the time bursts into the police station in the nearest town, badly injured and streaming with blood, with a gruesome story of her having been carried off by ' monsters'. His story is regarded as either a clev'er alibi or the ravings of a disordered brain. No one will believe him, except Detective-Inspector Roger Trefusis of New Scotland Yard, who is sent down to Devon to take charge of the case.
There he finds his father's old friend, Professor Galbraith, and his lovely niece, Mercia, and the mysterious multi-millionaire Silas Hopper. His investigations lead him into the greatest danger and when the final elucidation of the mystery comes about he realizes that he stands alone against a great force of evil which would destroy the human race for the sake of one man's soaring ambition.
An unusual and up-to-minute thriller of what well might happen in the years to come.
