Brief Biography MEYNELL, Laurence (Walter). Also writes as Valeric Baxter; Robert Eton; Geoffrey Ludlow; A. Stephen Tring. British. Born in Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, 9 August 1899. Educated at St. Edmund's College, Ware, Hertfordshire. Served in the Honourable Artillery Company during World War I; Royal Air Force, 1939-45: mentioned in despatches. Married l)Shirley Ruth Darbyshire in i932 (died, 1955), one daughter; 2) Joan Belfrage in 1956. Articled pupil in a land agency in the I920's; worked as a schoolteacher and an estate agent. General Editor, Men of the Counties series, Bodley Head, publishers, London, 1955-57; Literary Editor, Time and Tide, London, 1958-60.
