Brief Biography
FLETCHER, J(oseph) S(mith). British. Born in Halifax, Yorkshire, 7 February 1863. Educated privately and at Silcoates School. Married Rosamond Langbridge; one son. Sub-Editor, Practical Teacher magazine, London, 1881-83; free-lance journalist in London, 1883-90; staff member, Leeds Mercury, 1890-1900; columnist ("A Son of the Soil") on rural life for several newspapers. Fellow, Royal Historical Society, 1918. Died 30 January 1935.
