Dr Hugh Westlake In an age when most medical detectives are specialists in pathology or psychiatry, Dr. Hugh Cavendish Westlake is an anachronism; a poor, hardworking general practitioner. Westlake's practice is in the small eastern town of Kenmore, where he resides with his young daughter, Dawn. Westlake has been a widower for a number of years. Dr. Westlake is still a young man; he was only 31 at the time of his wife's death. In his later cases (dating from about 1939 or 1940) he shows a reawakening interest in women. Dawn and he share the propensity for getting involved in murder cases, keeping him too busy to be caught by someone looking for an eligible widower. The doctor frequently visits the larger town of Grovestown, where he shares an occasional highball, and a murder investigation, with Inspector Cobb, his friend. |
