HILTON, John Buxton. Also writes as John Greenwood. British. Born in Buxton, Derbyshire, 8 June 1921. Educated at The College. Buxton. 1931-39; Pembroke College. Cambridge. 1939-41. 1946. B.A. in modern and medieval languages 1943, M.A. and Cert, Ed. 1946. Served in the Royal ArtilleryJ941-43, and the Intelligence Corps. 1943-46: mentioned in despatches. Married 1) Mary Skitmore in 1943 (died. 1968). three daughters; 2) Rebecca Adams in 1969. Language Teacher, Royds Hall School, Huddersfield, Yorkshire, 1946-47; Language Teacher, Chatham House School, Ramsgate, Kent. 1947-53; Head of the Languages Department, King Edward VI School. Chelmsford, Essex. 1953-57; Headmaster, Chorley Grammar School. Lancashire, 1957-64; Inspector of Schools. Department of Education and Science, London, 1964-70; part-time Tutor-Counsellor, Open University. Milton Keynes. Buckinghamshire, 1971-78.
