Synopsis
ON a foggy November night Donald Maclean, motoring down from London, lost his way, and his temper, and finally ran out of petrol. Calling at a house in search of assistance, he found it brilliantly lit but apparently empty, save for a corpse and a frightened lady who took the first opportunity of escaping through a convenient window.
Maclean, more than puzzled by such events, naturally 'phoned for the police, but could not avoid being involved in the extraordinary adventures that were to follow—adventures entailing the elucidation of a mysterious code, a search for a hoard of valuable pearls, as well as a hunt for a murderer. Mr. Holt's story moves swiftly through a series of dramatic episodes to an exciting climax.

A scarce title and a great read
