BUTLER, Gwendoline (nee Williams). Also writes as Jennie Melville. British. Born in London. Educated at Haberdashers' Aske's Hatcham Girls' School, London, 1939-42; Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford, 1944-49, B.A. in modern history 1949. Married Lionel Butler in 1949 (died, 1981); one daughter. Taught at two Oxford colleges for a short time. Recipient: Crime Writers Association Silver Dagger, 1973; Romantic Novelists Association Major Award, 1981.
