CARR, Glyn. Pseudonym for Frank Showell Styles. British. Born in Four Oaks, Warwickshire, 14 March 1908. Educated at Bishop Vesey's Grammar School, Simon Coldfield. Served in the Royal Navy, 1939-46: Commander. Married Kathleen Jane Humphreys in 1954; two daughters and one son. Clerk, 1924-34; tramp, 1934-37; freelance journalist, 1937-39; led expeditions to the Arctic, 1952 and 1953, and to the Himalayas, 1954. Since 1946, full-time writer.
