Peter Sergeant The "pleasantly piggish" looking young press agent, Peter Cutler Sargeant III, is about 30 years old. He is a veteran of three years in the army, four at Harvard and three as drama critic with the "New York Globe." He never had a byline with the "Globe," ghost-writing the column for the regular critic, Milton Haddock, a confirmed alcoholic —when Peter asked for a raise, the "Globe" informed him he was now a free-lance writer, no longer with their staff. He opened a one-man public relations firm in a one-room office with one filing cabinet on Madison Avenue, where a middle-aged lady, Miss Flynn, types his press releases. Murder appears in the most unusual circumstances, as when he takes, as clients a ballet company or an ultra-right-wing U.S. Senator, and when he accepts an invitation to a posh Long Island estate. |
