WALLACE, (Richard Horatio) Edgar. English. Born in Greenwich, London, 1 April 1875. Educated at St. Peter's School, London; Board School, Camberwell, London, to age 12. I Served in the Royal West Kent Regiment in England. 1893-96, 1 and in the Medical Staff Corps in South Africa, 1896-99; bought s his discharge, 1899; served in the Lincoln's Inn branch of the 3 Special Constabulary, and as a special interrogator for the War ; Office, during World War I. Married 1) Ivy Caldecott in 1901 (divorced. 1919), two daughters and two sons; 2) Violet King in 1921, one daughter. Worked in a printing firm, shoe shop, rubber factory, and as a merchant seaman, plasterer, and milk delivery boy, in London, 1886-91; South African Correspondent for Reuter's. 1899-1902, and the London Daily Mail, 1900-02; Editor, Rand Daily News, Johannesburg, 1902-03; returned to London: Reporter. Daily Mail, 1903-07, and Standard. 1910; Racing Editor, and later Editor, The Week-End, later The Week-Em! Racing Supplement. 1910-12; Racing Editor and Special Writer. Evening News, 1910-12; founded Bibury's Weekly and R.E. Wal-ton's Weekly, both racing papers; Editor, Ideas and The Story Journal, 1913; Writer, and later Editor, Town Topics, 1913-16; regular contributor to the Birmingham Post, and Thomson's Weekly News, Dundee; Racing Columnist, The Star, 1927-32, and Daily Mail, 1930-32; Drama Critic, Morning Post, 1928; Founder, The Bucks Mail, 1930; Editor, Sunday News, 1931. Chairman of the Board of Directors, and film writer/director. British Lion Film Corporation. President, Press Club, London. 1923-24. Died 10 February 1932. |
