Synopsis
You turn down a beautiful client and a thousand-pound fee in favour of marriage and a honeymoon. Then you take a financial knock-out and need that thousand very badly. You go after the beautiful client, but she's disappeared and somebody's anxious you shouldn't find her and is unpleasantly rough about it. You go to France, investigating the strange death of the show girl who was your beautiful client's sister, and on the Riviera you're "framed" for the murder of a blue-water vagabond. You're also emotionally entangled with a lovely but mysterious girl of whom your fiancee wouldn't approve. And all the time you're trying to get to grips with the shadowy figures who were on a murder beach. This is some of the trouble in which Private Eye Ricky Britton is involved in his first tough case: Circle of Shadows. Excitement, mystery and glamour make the pace in this fast-moving story set against the sophisticated backgrounds of London, Paris, and the French Riviera. DEBEN HOLT is also a mystery, for this pseudonym cloaks the identity of two well-known, authors. "Even our friends," they say, "aren't on to us yet."
