A chilling tale of blackmail and death !
Elizabeth has always known that her daughter, Nina, doesn't care for her. If she's honest with herself, she has little liking for the girl either. Brooding, difficult and sexually provocative, Nina is heading for trouble, even if her besotted and ineffectual father makes excuses for her at every turn. When the local school is set alight and the police start looking for an arsonist, Elizabeth is sure her daughter is involved. But owing to the affair in her own life she refuses to tell them anything.

A rare book featuring Agnes Turner and despite it's scarcity, still delivered for less than original cover price !
After the sudden death of her husband, Bill, Agnes feels compelled to sell their beautiful home and start afresh. Rose Cottage in Sussex seems the perfect place to settle and Agnes is content with her garden, her West Highland terrier, Mac, and the growing number of chickens she has rescued from a nearby battery. But village life being what it is, she is also a little bored. Relief comes in the shape of Amanda, a nervous girl who lives in the strange and dilapidated house in the same lane as Rose Cottage. Prone to outbursts of hysteria, Amanda is convinced that she stabbed to death the man who slashed and killed her beloved horse Magic.

'Where's Neeny?' Henry Mason called out as soon as he entered the front door. Elizabeth, his wife, wished, as she always did, that he wouldn't persist in calling their daughter 'Neeny'. Her name was Nina, the name he had chosen when she was born. The nickname irritated Elizabeth. 'She's taken Polly into the field for a walk.' She spoke with some difficulty as she was holding a paint brush in her mouth, not wanting to put the brush down and waste the paint on it, which she had just managed to mix to the right shade. 'What?' Her husband poked his head round the kitchen door. Elizabeth took the brush out of her mouth. 'She's taken Polly for a walk in the field.' 'Oh.' Henry came into the kitchen, opened the refrigerator door and took out a can of beer. 'How long since she went out, then?' Elizabeth looked at him. He pulled a face as he opened the can and it made the usual swishing sound and the fine spray rose to his face. 'Bit early for that, isn't it?' she said.
