'Where's Neeny?' Henry Mason called out as soon as he entered the front door. Elizabeth, his wife, wished, as she always did, that he wouldn't persist in calling their daughter 'Neeny'. Her name was Nina, the name he had chosen when she was born. The nickname irritated Elizabeth. 'She's taken Polly into the field for a walk.'
